Northern Latvia Trip

Join us for a group day trip in Northern Latvia on July 31st!

Description

July 31, 2023 10:00 - 18:00 (8 hours)
Leave from Riga Old town at 10:00. Drive to Sigulda

Located in Gauja National Park, the oldest and largest National Park of Latvia, Sigulda is one of the most charming towns with a rich history. With a hilly and scenic landscape, many walking trails, springs, sandstone exposures, and cultural monuments it is known not only as the most popular tourist destination but also as an attractive spot for sports and activities throughout the year. Visit the picturesque Gutman’s Cave, probably the oldest tourist attraction in Latvia, concealing many legends. Continue to Turaida Castle Reserve, rich in archaeological, architectural, historical, and art monuments, which tell us about many ancient time events starting from the 11th century.

Your next destination is Bīriņi Manor, a romantic property surrounded by a beautiful park, lakes, and manor buildings. Constructed in 1860, the neo-Gothic palace building stands on the site of the former Bīriņi manor, named in honor of Johann Biring von Helmstadt, who received the land in gratitude for becoming a hero of the people by using his wit to set the nearby neighborhoods free from the troops of Ivan IV.

After lunch in the palace restaurant (meal included in the price), take a walk through the park with many alleys, romantic arbors, bridges, and other elements telling the history and love stories of the families that lived here. Visit the Oak of Love, Love Islet, Angel Hill, and greet a family of white storks that return year after year to build their nest on one of the palace towers.

Drive to Saulkrasti, the second-largest seaside resort in Latvia. Once used as a swimming place by the nobility of Vidzeme in the early 19th century, it developed into a summer residence for wealthy and prominent people. Nowadays it is one of the prettiest beaches on the coast of the Vidzeme region with fine white sand, magnificent sunsets, walking paths, Blue Flag Beach, and Dune Pine Forest. From the 18m high White Dune, a beautiful view opens towards the Gulf of Riga.

Return back to Riga. Estimated return time 18:00.
