Engineering Infrastructure Automation Engineer

Job Summary

Engineering Infrastructure team is a part of SUSE infrastructure department, driving the development infrastructure across the globe. We own and drive hundreds of machines and dozens of services and maintain big data centers in Nuremberg, Prague and Provo; the smaller setup exists in Beijing too. The range is wide: from hardware and network maintenance to the application support, configuration management, complex monitoring, identity provider, mail and distribution lists. We work closely with the development and support openSUSE community. Our work, effectiveness and responsiveness are critical for the company wellbeing. Our team is looking for an experienced automation engineer who will help us in further improvement and modernization.

Primary Job Responsibilities

Automate the environment deployment, maintenance. Transfer infrastructure to the code to turn classic infrastructure to a modern flexible one.
devise, build up, mount and keep an eye on instrumentation and control systems that sense, quantify and run functioning processes. This work differs from supervising extensive system projects to contributing know-how on particular portions.
devise specification and in-depth documentation for their design. Must be great trouble-shooters and must be up to date with the latest technology.
Automation Engineers makes sure that field devices, instrumentation systems, communication networks and interfaces are working properly.

Graphics Software Engineer (Flexible Location)

Job Summary

SUSE's open, open source approach helps our customers and partners move their businesses forward, transforming IT, delivering increased agility and faster innovation. SUSE's Engineering & Innovation (E&I) oversees the technology innovation, and product and solution development and delivery of SUSE's global portfolio, built within various open source projects and communities. Within E&I, the Hardware Enablement Team is a group of a dozen people in different locations with different areas of expertise, ranging from small peripherals to crucial system components (e.g. GPUs) to specific platforms (ARM, IBM POWER).

Primary Job Responsibilities

A Graphics Software Engineer is responsible for maintaining and further development of the graphics stack for SUSE Linux Enterprise and openSUSE distributions. Some example projects for this role include improvements in remote desktop applications (VNC, RDP) and migration of X.Org setups to Wayland.

  • Development of new code and backporting to older releases.
  • Bug analysis and bug fixing.
  • Close collaboration with upstream communities.
  • Technical discussions with SUSE partners and other stakeholders.

Primary Job Responsibilities

Manage and lead one or more programs involving multiple functions and project teams to drive the engineering development and implementation process for a product offering.

Develop and direct schedules, critical deliverables, resource allocation plans, and other support requirements for assigned program.

Manage activities of supporting project teams and internal partners; ensures progress against established plan and makes determinations based on analysis of business information to alter or update schedule and resource allocation to meet product requirements and development schedule.

Communicate program progress, escalations, and issue analysis to product stakeholders; collaborates with management and internal partners to recommend and implement changes to product, processes, or business practices to resolve escalated issues, produce solutions, and ensure adherence to established product roadmaps and schedules.

Drive innovation and integration of new technologies and quality initiatives into projects across the engineering organization.

Lead and provide guidance and mentoring to less-experienced staff members.
