Description
You can build an Open Source Community in your locality in order to empower more people into the world of Open Source Technologies. Building a community sounds hard, but you can simplify it if you follow some steps and methods. The talk will focus on my experience in building a first GNOME dedicated community in my country and what I have learnt in my journey till now. The objective is to provide the methods, solutions to some problems and the way of building an GNOME or an Open Source community to the participants.

Talk Description | Building a GNOME or any Open Source community might seem like a challenging task, especially when starting from scratch. However, by following some effective strategies and practical steps, you can build a thriving and inclusive community. In this talk, I will share my personal journey of founding the first GNOME dedicated community in my country. Through this experience, I learned many valuable lessons about outreach, engagement, and long-term sustainability in community building. The talk will be divided into the following sections: Introduction to Community Building : A brief overview of the importance of open-source communities, particularly within the GNOME ecosystem. Challenges Faced : Identifying common obstacles encountered when starting a new community Tips on Community Building : I will present tips and ways that helped in establishing the GNOME Nepal community. Solutions to Common Problems : Strategies for tackling specific problems faced. Sustaining and Growing the Community : How to keep a community vibrant and engaged for the long term. We will explore techniques to motivate contributors and give values to the newcomers, how to expand leadership roles, and tips for partnering with organizations. |
