We are making attendees aware about GNOME and other FOSS softwares. We will explain them about Gnome toolkit and about the stages in open source software explaining them about issues, pull requests, contributions, etc We will be explaining about FOSS through examples. Our talk encourages and promotes open source usage and contributions.

Talk Description | We will like to present attendee with the concept of what Gnome and the problem it solves. We will also introduce them with the concept of Gnome themes. We will demonstrate them on using linux environment with and without Gnome to present them how much of a hassle does Gnome like GUI environment prevents. Linux sounds like an alien/hacker-ish OS for many people. We will try to prove them why this is just another myth. With the support of Gnome, we will present them how switching into linux is really easy and the myth is just that - a myth. Linux is a highly customizable software. If you don't like the appearance of a window, you can customize it to have changes made on it according to your choice. Then we will introduce them about Gnome and how it comes pre installed in linux distributions and it is already there to make their life easier. We will present them with an idea of how Gnome environment can be edited using GTK Gnome Toolkit. We will also explain them about the various restrictions on every day softwares like Ms-Excel, Ms-Word cannot be edited and altered according to our use-case. We will them present attendees with a edited version of our theme which will be a fork of generally available gnome theme, with some modifications. We will introduce how themes like these is legally distributable when working with open source like Gnome, linux, etc. Introducing them with the concept of Open-source, open source licenses and why open source is recommended to work with open source. We will show them with an idea of how open source really works and how people contributes to the open source explaining the various parts of open source life cycle like Issues, Pull request, revisions, contributions, etc through a diagrams and also a github repo. We will encourage attendees to dive deep in their time and to make contributions. Also we will explain attendee how open source helps their life and how it has been helping their life without them even noticing. Then we will explain them how to use Github as a code hosting and contributing platform. No, the talk will not be technical but rather steps into open source. |
