Talk Description | GNOME goes beyond GNOME itself. Open-source software extends far beyond individual projects, fostering collaboration, innovation, and inclusivity. This talk will explore how learning from one open-source project, such as Drupal, can inspire contributing to other opensource projects, including GNOME and GitLab. Drawing from my experience with Google Summer of Code at the Drupal Association, I will highlight the journey of Drupal's development, community engagement, and how it thrives as a model of community-driven progress. Key topics will include accessibility in open source, the role of marketing and promotion, and strategies for increasing engagement. We will also dive into the practical aspects of contributing to open-source projects and explore the evolution of Drupal through the efforts of its association and broader community. Attendees will gain insights into organizing large communities, driving new initiatives, and empowering contributors to work on meaningful projects. With a focus on inclusion, diversity, interoperability, and open standards, this session will inspire and encourage new contributors to the open-source ecosystem. I will talk on future of free, libre, and open-source software (FLOSS) and how community-building efforts can shape the next generation of open-source projects. The audience is a diverse group of open-source enthusiasts, contributors, and community organizers, with varying levels of technical expertise. No prior technical knowledge is required, as the focus will be on community engagement, open-source development, and fostering inclusivity in the open-source ecosystem. |
Author(s) Bio | I am Senior at Institute of Engineering, Thapathali Campus. I contributed at Drupal Association during Google Summer of Code 2024. I am Gold Microsoft Learn Student Ambassador. I love opensource and believe in learning and sharing in public. I believes that access to the internet and computers can transform lives. With just 51.6% internet penetration in Nepal and only 3% of children and youth in rural areas having access to computers and the internet, I am driven to change this reality. |
